Hudsonville High School Construction Update 2

Sunday, May 26, 2013

It’s been a week or two since I did and update, and so here are a few pictures.  Work always seems to go slow at first as it takes a while to get all the footings and plumbing in the ground.

The high school had their official ground breaking about a week ago and they put up this sign showing the work to be done.

These next two pictures show what the High School and Bus Barn will look like.

The footings of the new bus barn have been poured and they just started laying the block walls this past week.

Of course we had to stop and take a turn on the swings at South school which will be torn down as soon as school is out in a couple of weeks.  You are never to old to enjoy a ride on the swing set.  Not that we are getting old or anything.

I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day with friends and family.

Descendants of Isaac Waite?

I recently did a post of Mom & Dad’s grave stone, and put some pictures of some of Dad’s families head stones.  Our son Jeff did me one better.  He always has enjoyed doing research, and reading books, I guess that is why he has written  a couple of books already.  Jeff did some poking around on-line trying to find out more about his ancestry.  He found out some amazing things I was never aware of, and would love to hear from family if you knew about any of these things.  I have a link at the bottom of this blog that you can click on and look at our Waite history.  Did you know he was able to trace it back all the way to the year 1800 when in Massachusetts Isaac Waite was born.  And did you know we had a Waite that was in the Civil war!!  I am sure many of you remember Dad & Mom talking about the days of “Shackhuddle”.  Well did you know how it received it’s name.  Here is a quote from the article,

“He is buried alone in Shackhuddle Cemetery - the last remaining grave, which is now a part of a private residence.  The cemetery was reserved for the settlers in that area who arrived too late in the season to build their log cabins so they assembled a shack and huddled together through that very first winter and thus is was called Shackhuddle”.

When I was in high school I was part of a photography class and we went up to Shackhuddle and took pictures of some of the tombstones.  I so wish I still had them.  I would love to investigate further and see if I can find out if they are still located there.  If clicking on the link’s below does not work just copy and paste them into your browser and that should take you where you need to go.

Here is the link to the web sight, http://www.migenweb.net  this will not take you to the Waite history but will show you all the history for anyone you can check out.  Here is the link for the history of the Waite’s, http://www.migenweb.net/ottawa/genealogies/settlers/WXYZ/waitei.html

I would love to here from anyone that may have some stories about the Waite family history.

A Visit To Family Gone Home To Glory

Monday, May 13, 2013

We took a drive tonight to the Georgetown Cemetery.  It was a beautiful cool sunny evening.  The first picture is of Mom and Dad Waite’s headstone.  The beautiful flowers are a gift from Phil & Sherry.  A big thanks goes to them for purchasing these every year in honor of our parents.

We decided to take a walk and see if we could find Grandma and Grandpa Bolhuis’ grave stone, we found them quite easy, and then walked and took some pictures of the grave stones for the Waite’s.  These grave stone are not near Mom & Dad Waite’s but they are across the lane quite near the Bolhuis’.

It was interesting to see Great, Great, Grandpa & Grandma’s stone’s and his wife Melissa’s grave stone never had the year of her death engraved into it.

I love the very large Family Grave Stone that is placed nearby.  It brings back lots of memories every time you visit here.

Hudsonville High School Construction Update

We stopped and checked out the new construction going on today.  The entire football field that was located by the high school is now completely gone.  They have removed all the earth that had been there and, now is back to level ground.

Here are some pictures of the old bus barn and the starting of the footings for the new bus barn under construction just to the south of the current bus barn.

More exciting pictures to come, but you need a good foundation on which to build upon.

I will have pictures again coming shortly, but for now you may copy and paste this link below into your browser and it will take you to the article in the press today.  Or you may be able to right click on it and choose “open hyperlink”.  Hope everyone has a great Mothers Day.

Big Changes Coming In Hudsonville

Thursday, May 2, 2013

The coming of warmer weather has Hudsonville Schools starting a huge project that will take quite a long time to complete.  It was voted in favor this past year to do an addition to the Hudsonville High School.  We are outgrowing our current school so changes had to be made. South Elementary School will be torn down as soon as school is out to make room for the new Freshman campus.  They are now in the process of building a new South School just south of Hudsonville which will be ready for the students this fall.  The tear down process is also happening at the old football stadium where we went to many games to cheer HHS Eagles on to victory.  The baseball fields that our son Joey played on and the tennis courts that our son Jeff played on are all being torn out. (new ones have already been built several years ago at the athletic facilities by one of the middles schools). The bus barn will come down once this school session has ended and a new one is being built just west of the current location. There will be some remodeling going on at the current high school as well, adding a much needed new larger auditorium.  The now current freshmen campus will be turned into a daycare center and preschool.  In the weeks and months ahead I am hoping to take many walks with Christi and take many pictures of the progress of the construction and update the blog at least once a week.  Hope you enjoy.

Here is a couple of pictures of the Old South school.   Kind of sad in a way, I have many wonderful memories of school days there.  IMG_1849  IMG_1806

This next picture is the New South school being constructed.

These pictures are of what is left of the old varsity baseball field and dugouts.  We hope to take home a piece of the dugout for Joey when they tear it out.
