The 4th Of July A Couple Of Weeks Late

Monday, July 19, 2010

Sorry I am just getting this posted, but better late then never, I guess, in this case.  The 4th fell on a Sunday this year so seemed a little strange.  We had church in the morning but not Sunday School or evening service.  Our family came over for supper around 4:00.  Joey was not able to come as he was with Melissa at her Grandma’s, and Jeremy had to work.

It is a Waite tradition on the 4th of July to always have Chicken Licken chicken.  We did this way back when Mom and Dad were still with us.  Well we have continued it since then, but this year there was one change…  Chicken Licken Restaurant burned down and was not rebuilt, how sad, we were hoping they would rebuild as no one made chicken as good as they did. So this year it’s Family Fare chicken.

Julie makes great Baked Beans so we always ask her to bring them and Gracie helped get everything ready.  Also Christi had picked up some Black Sweet Cherries and Gracie was helping her Mom by eating her fare share. Oh and by the way on the plate you can see Potatoes salad which I made from scratch.  My potato salad was good but not near as good as my mom would have made, at least in my memory.

After dinner and sitting around a little while to chat it was time for our annual game of Croquet.  We had to introduce Jessica to this family game and she did quite well.  But in the end Jeff was the big winner.

Gracie is still a little young to play but was a great sport in watching the action from the sidelines.  And she made sure no one was cheating.

After Jeff and Jessica left and it became dark out it was time for a fire and some ‘Smores for Tyler and Gracie.  A little too warm for a fire but it was a special day and had a hard time saying “no”.  We even were treated to several neighbors illegal fireworks displays.

Hope your Fourth of July was as fun as ours.

Water Bucket Brigade

Friday, July 16, 2010

When playing outside in the summer it is a MUST to include WATER.  I picked up some sponges from the dollar store and let the kids have a little game of transferring the water from one bucket to the other with the use of the sponges. water bucket brigade c I was amazed how well Gracie did and she didn’t give up, she even “won” round one! water bucket brigade a What’s a game without a treat, right? so they each got a tootsie roll. water bucket brigade b Well, that spurred them on to do another round, but then who should arrive, but the ICE CREAM MAN!ice cream man a  Normally I don’t keep cash on hand but today was their lucky day and they each were able to get a treat from the ice cream man.  ice cream man bice cream man e

Tyler chose a Jolly Rancher Ice Cone ice cream man d
