Memorial Day Parade

Monday, May 28, 2012

Today Christi and I, and our Granddaughter Gracie went to the Standale Memorial Day parade.  We went to watch Tyler and Julie walk in the parade.  Both Tyler and Julie have been taking karate lessons and their karate school walks in the parade.  It was a hot and sunny day but there was a nice breeze blowing so it was not too bad.  We found our spots and waited for the parade to start.  Just before the parade started we were given a plane formation flyover.  Gracie liked that a lot.

Here is Gracie playing in the dirt (she just loves dirt) waiting for the parade to start.

The parade has started and it’s still a ways off, but we can hear the sirens.

Here the parade comes by us, represented by the various armed forces.

Gracie enjoyed all the candy the various groups marching by threw.  I had to stop her for a moment so I could get a picture of her and grandma enjoying the parade.

Now here comes what we came to watch, Julie and Tyler, led in front by their instructor, Master Rick.  We are so proud of them both.

Every parade has to have some antique cars and some classic cars.

There was even a cute truck made to look like a Tonka truck.

                                         IMG_0326

There was even a guy that did not know what your feet are for,

                                 IMG_0327

After Julie and Tyler were done walking they joined us to watch the rest of the parade.

No parade can be without the Fire Trucks.  Gracie covered her ears as their sirens were quite loud, to say the least.

We hope everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Day also, and we want to especially thank all those who secrefised so much and some their lives so we could enjoy the freedoms that we have to this day.

Here is what was a close up of the Picture Of The Day.  It is a wedding cake Christi had to make.

                                      IMG_0279

This cake was beautiful and very large and heavy.  It was a carrot cake and the bottom layer is a double 14” round, and topped with a double 12” round.

We weighted it just for fun and it weighted in at 28-1/2 lbs.  I know it was delicious as she had a little extra left over so I was able to taste it.  Good job with the cake Dear you do wonderful work.

Hope everyone has a sweet day,

Dale & Christi

Picture Of The Day

Here is what you were looking at.  It is a close up of a Duck’s nest at our church.

                            Now You Don’t

         IMG_0267

This duck has been laying eggs by our church for the past several years
and decided on a new spot.  You cannot see where the nest is even if you
walk right up to it.  The nest is underneath the bush on far left, right under
the window.  In the past he has always chosen a spot about 30 feet to the
right of where we are looking.  But each year his nest gets invaded by an
animal of some sort, I’m thinking it might be a woodchuck.  So we found
the nest by accident as we were putting new wood mulch around the church a
week ago.  So today I took some pictures of it.  She was not too happy and
stood in the parking lot waiting for me to leave her alone.  Hopefully her new
well-hidden spot will allow her eggs to hatch this year.

Answer To The Picture Of The Day

These pictures were taken of a beautiful Rhododendron bush on the side of Joey & Melissa’s home.  There was a busy bee that landed which I tried to get a close up of.  I had a hard time getting him to stay still long enough to snap a shot.

I hope everyone is enjoying their spring, as the weather in Michigan is just starting to be beautiful and warm, but not hot and muggy yet.

We miss you Mom & Dad

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Thanks again to Phil & Sherri for purchasing a beautiful arrangement of flowers to go on Mom & Dad Waite’s gravestone.  We are starting to notice less and less flowers being put on gravestones, which I think is sad.  I am so thankful for them for doing this every year at Mother’s Day.  Christi mentioned that it may be a tradition that is going away, and when we pass from this earth this will not be anything done anymore. As long as we are able we would love to keep up this thoughtful remembrance of our parents.  It’s hard to believe Mom has been gone 17 years and Dad 7 years.  There is not to many weeks go by that something comes up or you see a photograph that brings back a good memory of them, or brings a tears to your eyes.  We love you Mom and Dad, and look forward to seeing you again someday soon in Heaven, where flowers will never fade.
