We spent a fun time at the Indianapolis Speedway. We were able to take a 1-1/2 hour tour of the entire place with our host Dick. It was a beautiful day and with the race coming up only a couple of weeks away a lot of excitement going on. But first I need to show you what the picture of the day was for yesterday. It was a close-up of the surface of this fountain you could jump into if you wanted to. Did anyone get it right, if not it was a tough one.
This is the entrance sign as you come in and this years pace car.
You cannot believe unless you have been there how HUGE this place is. It’s 2-3/4 miles just around the track and it has a large lake right in the middle which I never knew. They have fishing contests and skiing competitions.
At one point they let us get out and walk up the steep 19’ bank. It is really steep and that is the smaller of the turns. There is one that has a 35’ bank and they don’t let anyone walk up there anymore due to someone falling down on it once.
Victory Lane where they are handled the trophies and all the interviews take place.
These two pictures are of the old Victory Lane and a picture of my biggest racing driver the late Dale Earnhardt after he won his Daytona 500.
This is the winner of last years Daytona 500 race. They take the car away from the team just as it is, and do not clean it up so you can see all the dried up Champaign and confetti still on it. The team does not get it back until after the next years Daytona 500 race. The winning driver last year was Rookie driver Trevor Bayne.
This is two pictures of the view you get from the press box which is 6 stories up. The picture on the left shows the lake and the picture on the right shows the view looking at the last turn before the checkered flag.
There is a lot more pictures we took but don’t want to bore you with them all. It was a fun day and watching the race this year will be extra special after taking the tour. Now for the picture of the day. Hint it has to do with what we did another day.
