We had a great Easter this year as my brother, Larry, and his exchange student, Nick from the Netherlands, were able to join us along with Ken & Pam’s daughter, Kathi, and Jeff and Jessica, and we were able to meet Joey’s girlfriend, Melissa, for the first time.
On Monday I was able to spend the day with Larry and Nick. We first stopped at Ann’s and took a couple of pictures.
We then were off to see Holland and how it compared to the Netherlands for Nick. Our first stop was at a natural trail in Holland where the original founder lived.
Then we were off to Windmill Island which was not officially open yet but they were very nice and let us walk around. We even found out that Holland, Mi is the 2nd most “Happy City In the USA”. Coming in 2nd to only Boulder, Colorado. We took a number of pictures there because the local newspaper in Frazer Park, CA may write an article about Nick coming from the Netherlands to Holland, MI. So that’s why you see Larry and Nick holding up a copy of the paper.
We then had to take Nick to see Lake Michigan. It was quite a bit cooler on the waterfront but still a beautiful day. It was quite foggy out there as you can see by the pictures.
We then HAD to stop at Russ’ restaurant to eat dinner. We finally stopped at Dutch Village and had fun looking around and Larry & Nick purchased a few things to take back with them.
Nick also explained the flags of the Netherlands. The one on the left,(red, white and blue strips) is the National Flag of their country and one on the right is of their local Province.
It was a great fun filled day and also the weather could not have been better. We even brought in a Thunderstorm for Larry and Nick late Monday night as they do not get them very much in California or the Netherlands. It was great to get to know Nick and see my brother once again.
