Gentlemen Start Your Engines

Thursday, March 1, 2012

We spent a fun time at the Indianapolis Speedway.  We were able to take a 1-1/2 hour tour of the entire place with our host Dick.  It was a beautiful day and with the race coming up only a couple of weeks away a lot of excitement going on. But first I need to show you what the picture of the day was for yesterday.  It was a close-up of the surface of this fountain you could jump into if you wanted to.  Did anyone get it right, if not it was a tough one.

This is the entrance sign as you come in and this years pace car.

You cannot believe unless you have been there how HUGE this place is.  It’s 2-3/4 miles just around the track and it has a large lake right in the middle which I never knew. They have fishing contests and skiing competitions.

At one point they let us get out and walk up the steep 19’ bank.  It is really steep and that is the smaller of the turns.  There is one that has a 35’ bank and they don’t let anyone walk up there anymore due to someone falling down on it once.

Victory Lane where they are handled the trophies and all the interviews take place.

These two pictures are of the old Victory Lane and a picture of my biggest racing driver the late Dale Earnhardt after he won his Daytona 500.

This is the winner of last years Daytona 500 race.  They take the car away from the team just as it is, and do not clean it up so you can see all the dried up Champaign and confetti still on it.  The team does not get it back until after the next years Daytona 500 race.  The winning driver last year was Rookie driver Trevor Bayne.

This is two pictures of the view you get from the press box which is 6 stories up.  The picture on the left shows the lake and the picture on the right shows the view looking at the last turn before the checkered flag.

There is a lot more pictures we took but don’t want to bore you with them all.  It was a fun day and watching the race this year will be extra special after taking the tour.  Now for the picture of the day.  Hint it has to do with what we did another day.

A Day At The Light House

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

I had done some research before we left and found out there was a area not far from our resort that was called Ponce Inlet and it was supposed to have a light house you could go into.  Next to my favorite thing which is “Bridges” light house’s come in second.

But before I do that I have to show you what the picture of the day was yesterday.  A friendly little creature that wanted his picture taken.

Here is the picture of the lighthouse which is still used to this day.  It has about

250 steps to get to the top.

Christi making her way up.  She did great as she has asthma and so had to take it a little slower.  I went up ahead to take some pictures.  Here she looks like she is saying “How far do have to go yet”.

When you finally got to the top it was well worth the walk or in this case
250 steps, as the view was spectacular.

You could not actually go to the top floor where the light fixture is as it is still being used, but I did a picture of it.

We then went back and had some lunch and then took a walk on the beach in the other direction and found a neat amphitheater and little shops and restaurants.

A Beautiful Warm Week Spent Together

Sunday, February 26, 2012

The time had finally arrived for Christi and I to take a vacation to Florida for just the two of us. It was a long journey to get there. It started out with a phone call where on the other  end of the phone the person says you get a “Free” airline flight to anywhere in the USA.  All you have to do is come an watch a short video and listen to a person talk about their travel agency.  Let me just say this, Do not answer that call and no matter how convincing they sound say NO.

Well that being said we were off for Florida on Saturday February 4.  It was a late flight and by the time we got our luggage and our rental car and drove to our timeshare it was 1:30 Sunday morning.  We got up and went out and did some grocery shopping as we were going to try and cook our main meal in our condo.  Then we took a walk on the beach.  We could just walk our back door and across the patio and down to the beach. The picture on the right shows that they drive right on the beach, and the ice cream goes up and down the beach.

DSC04106  DSC04107

They even have speed limit signs for the cars.  Each night they move the signs away from the beach as the tide comes in covers the road.

DSC04108 DSC04109

We even got in the water the first day there.  As you can see the water was not real warm but the waves were great.  I look like a Michigander with my WHITE skin.

Then we took a walk down to the pier which was just down the beach from where we were staying.

DSC04243 DSC04118

Christi even brought her Stampin’Up! sandals and left her imprint in the sand.

DSC04122 DSC04121

Now I am going to start a New idea and we will see how it works and how long I can keep it up.  I am going to show you a “Picture of the day” and it will be a close up of something and it’s your job to try and figure it out.  The next day I will show a picture of what it was along with the next “Picture of the Day”

Well so long for now from Daytona Beach Florida,

Dale & Christi.

Picture of the day. Hint has to do with light.
